Good With: Everything you normally put on chips?
Prep Time: <5 minutes
Cook Time: About 25 minutes, depending on pan size
Cost: 1¢ per chip
There are tons of things that we buy all the time that could be easily, easily, easily made at home. Where we used to spend $4.00 (or sometimes more) on a huge bag of tortilla chips… we could have taken 30 minutes or so to make just as many as are whole in a regular bag… and for about 1/8 of the cost. Plus, these chips are fresh, their crunchiness will sell you instantly, not to mention the taste.
Ingredients
Makes: 36 chips

9 6″ corn or flour tortillas
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
Salt
Preparation Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F. Lightly oil both sides of each whole tortilla. Stack the tortillas on top of each other and cut into quarters (two cuts).
2. Arrange quarters on a greased, or parchment covered baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt, to taste.
3. Cook for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown, turning the chips over one time during baking (preferably in the middle).
4. Allow to cool on a wire rack, turned upside down over paper towels. Eat immediately!
Yaaaaargh!: When we say 10-12 minutes, we’d like you to err on the long side. Undercooked chips have a chewy, leathery consistency that’s just… not good. Also, if you’re a big fan of salted chips, feel free ot throw way more salt on there than others. If you only like a little, only use a little – it won’t hurt the baking process to play around a little bit.
